Things are not always as they seem, and so it is with Djembe. Born to a forthright Paladin and a noble lady, young Djembe was tutored in the ways of righteousness and truth. It seemed as though the young noble would follow in his father's footsteps and become a warrior of purity. But during the season of Djembe's quest to prove his devotion, this young man encountered, and fell captive to, the favor of a beautiful Erudite cleric named Solarius.

Solarius and Djembe were inseparable in their travels, and their love and devotion developed. Both desired to be joined together for eternity. As they traveled to Erudin to have their union blessed by his family and friends, Djembe's father had learned that Solarius was a follower of Cazic`Thule. "I will not allow my son to make this mistake. He is foreordained for greatness," he said. In his vehement disapproval, Djembe's father ordered the assassination of Solarius, sending executioners to destroy this sworn enemy, and save his son from sure destruction.

As Djembe and Solarius neared his home in Erudin, Djembe felt as though the gods had smiled upon him. All his thoughts and visions of the future were bright. Upon that thought, the assassin knights closed in on them. The death was swift and merciless, and as Djembe held his lifeless love in his arms, he cursed all that he had known of light and truth. This deed was not pure, not good, and indeed, not without recourse.

Djembe never again returned home or to his study of the ways of truth and light. Instead, he studied the arcane lore of necromancy in hopes to return life to his lost love.

So to you adventurers in Norrath, as you come in contact with this messenger, you must know that darkness is not always evil, and light is not always good.
