The Darkened Sea hides many secrets. A coral castle , enchanting sirens , watered-down dwarves , and even dinosaurs
Hundreds of years ago, Lord Inquisitor Seru led the traitorous rebellion which eventually led to the fall of the mighty Combine Empire. After this notorious attack, the followers of Seru branched off, isolating themselves on this lone island. They created a city there, and have had years to build it up.
Arx Mentis is a prosperous city hidden from view by fog and transportation magic. The city is able to be completely self-reliant through powerful magic, recycling, and sprawling city-gardens. The people there live a contented life and are able to take up study in religion, art, and philosophy.
Above the city proper is a massive citadel. Within the floating structure lives the elite, magic-wielding Indagatoris Opertum. These scholarly wizards live to learn and further the study of magic. They also keep the island safe from prying eyes, as well as provide for the city’s inhabitants.
While the island seems quite idyllic, power struggles amongst the nobles have been growing slowly over time, seeded by previous generations. Now, those struggles are coming to a head. This is especially alarming to citizens after the recent storm that threatens to take the island along with errant magical discharges.
The Darkened Sea expansion adventures culminate in Arx Mentis; it’s sure to be your toughest challenge yet! Secrets abound and powerful magi want to keep you from discovering the answers that could save Norrath from utter destruction.

A Light For All to Look Upon
Not a lot of records from before Lord Triskian Seru’s reign have surfaced, and some of those that have were damaged and only partially legible. The following collection of missives and letters pertain to the Inquisitorial Guard at the End of the Age of War, from first-hand witnesses.
Lord Inquisitor,
I feel I must offer my resignation, though I do so with great pain, and wish it were not so. I have believed in the higher purity of this city and the rule of law that had provided security and sustenance for us, for as long as I can remember. It filled my spirit with contentment to be a part of the Inquisitorial Guard. Then the Treaty of Recuso was ratified.
We had seen the suffering of others. Our neighbors pain was ours, and all life on this world hung in the balance. The treaty was necessary, and it pleases me that it was agreed upon. So then, why do I write? I pen this because still we cling to the old ways. Still we require our citizens to shun the pains and suffering of certain races. Seems the scars of the great Empire split are still with us.
I have been tasked with presenting the Questions to a citizen by the name of Kurron Redember. I am not sure I can carry out my orders, My Lord. I cannot say I believe in them, any longer. As such, I see no other alternative, I must offer my resignation.

Today is a great day, so I shall begin this journal. The High Inquisitor has called for my skilled hand to create for him a set of armor, which cannot be pierced by any weapon. This is to be my last chance to be in good grace with Lord Seru, though I have denounced Katta I assume they can still sense that I miss my family.

Success! I have created an entire arsenal that should be able to strike through his armor. I had the most success using the following: A Pommel Mold, Hilt Mold, one Vial of Quicksilver Temper, one Yttrium Steel Sheet, and either a Dagger, Short, Curved, or Long Blade mold created a fine blade.
