Dwarves have a long history of glorious warriors. They are known for their doggedness and ferocity in battle. Most people also understand that they are not blind to the arts of stealth and subtlety, especially when it applies to a good fight. What most people do not recognize is that symbolism is very important to Dwarven culture. Most Dwarves, in fact, generally deny their deep attachment to the symbols of their own culture, shrugging them off as trinkets or adornments. This book, however, covers these symbols in depth, with special attention paid to the use of those symbols on armor.
This volume discusses the modern symbols of Dwarven culture and shows how these new symbols give younger Dwarves a culture of their own and by doing so gives them strength.
Among the pages of discussion about these symbols is a pattern. This pattern combines the powerful symbols of young Dwarves into a powerful image that strikes a chord in your heart. You know that you will be able to reproduce this pattern many times before the book becomes worn and you must replace it.
To create pattern for tailoring armor templates based on these patterns you will need this book, a large bottle of ink, a roll of vellum, a quill and a compacted backpack to hold the patterns you will make. You'll also need a book binding to do the work.

Story 1
There is nothing like the smell of the forge, is there? I love the crash of hammer on iron, the tang of metal on the tip of the tongue. There is joy in working with one's hands, and that is what dwarves do best.
We were created by Brell Serilis, who discovered Norrath and brought us into being. Some say he had other purposes in mind, but we dwarves know that he was -- and is -- our creator and bringer of life.
Stone and rock. Hammer and anvil. We learned our crafts from the beginning, in our home of Kaladim, in the ButcherblockMountains. Our city flourished, for many came to us, wanting to buy the many beautiful things we can craft.
Have you ever seen the sun rise, its light spreading like over the Butcherblock mountains like the flames of a forge? We who have not seen this with our own eyes sing the songs of our fathers before us, and weep for the world we cannot know.
You might hear of the Northmen boasting of their brawn. They are certainly very strong, for their size. Put any barbarian up in a feat of strength against a dwarf and you will find that we are equally strong. Many is the enemy who thought to judge us by our size, to their own doom.

Drawn from History of the Hills of Shade — compiled history.RPGCommunity article · best available source
The earliest records regarding the Hills of Shade are the old dwarven sagas of Kaladim. In these it is called the Land of Steam and Shadow, and is even today often used as ametaphor for death. Interestingly, these sagas also make itclear that even in the dwarves’ ancient history, this landwas already full of ancient tombs and twisted wildlife. Mostof the tales make no effort to explain where the tombs camefrom, but a few references to the “dark lords” has lead Teir’Dal scholars to claim the hills were a common burial ground for their Caerthielian Empire. By contrast, the few dwarven lore-masters who have studied the question claim that the origin of the tombs is not mentioned simplybecause it was unimportant, and thus is the result of some minor kingdom long since forgotten.
Not nearly as old or reliable are the legends perpetuated by the Crushbone orcs. Ancient maps in the possession of the orcs of Crushbone — written in an ancient orc dialect known only to a handful of scholars today (none of whom are among the Crushbone orcs) — call this region the “Land of Hungry Mountains.” These orc maps also show a temple to Rallos Zek, a druid stone circle, and two teleport pyramids, as well as a pictogram of a shissar, although one needs to read Ancient Orc to know this. Crushbone prophets claim the area as forbidden to any but prophets of Rallos Zek and they sometimes journey to the hills to seek guidance and visions, yet they seem to have no real idea about the region’s history.

This book contains more than just patterns for armor. In the pages between the patterns there are historical notes about Dwarven armors of the past. There are tales of battles from the perspective of an individual involved in the fighting, obviously chosen because the tales mention flaws or benefits of the fighter's armor.
